Why the Family Sought Treatment
The parents were concerned about multiple dark cavities and progressive damage to their child’s teeth. The upper incisors had lost substantial crown structure, leaving short, uneven edges.
The goal was to assess all the teeth, treat the decay, and restore those that could be preserved.
Assessment and Treatment Plan
The dentist examined the teeth and gums and took dental X-rays. The pulp, roots, and surrounding tissues of the severely damaged teeth were assessed individually.
A comprehensive plan included professional cleaning, decay treatment, and restoration of the damaged teeth. Before general anaesthesia, the anaesthetist assessed the child and gave the parents preparation instructions.
Treatment Stages
1. Professional cleaning.
Plaque was removed from the teeth, between them, and along the gumline.
2. Removing decay.
Decayed tissue was removed from the affected upper and lower teeth. Weakened edges that could not support the restorations were also removed.
3. Restoring the damaged teeth.
The cleaned cavities were repaired, and missing walls and crown contours were rebuilt. The biting edges of the upper front teeth were recreated, while other treated teeth were restored to their appropriate shape.
4. Checking the result.
The dentist checked the bite and contacts between the teeth, then finished and polished the restorations. An anaesthetist monitored the child during treatment and awakening.
Treatment Result
The severely damaged upper teeth were rebuilt, and visible defects in the lower teeth were repaired. The after-treatment photograph shows intact front tooth surfaces and more defined contours.
The parents received a home-care plan covering twice-daily brushing with adult help, cleaning between teeth, and limiting frequent sugary snacks. Preventive check-ups were scheduled.
