Crooked teeth are not always a problem. However, when they overlap heavily, leave large spaces or meet unevenly, brushing and chewing may become awkward. At Tooth Fairy Clinic in Bila Tserkva, orthodontic appointments are available for children and adults.
Orthodontic problems are not always dramatic. You may notice one tooth turning slightly, or that the front teeth no longer meet as expected. In a child, new teeth may begin to appear before the dental arch seems ready to accommodate them.
The orthodontist studies how the entire set of teeth works together. The position of one crooked tooth matters, but so does the contact between the upper and lower jaws. Chewing pressure and the amount of space within the arch are checked as well.
Reasons to book an appointment
Overlapping teeth are a familiar sign, but the opposite — wide gaps — can also lead to an orthodontist consultation. Parents may notice that the front teeth project forward, while an adult might find that the jaws no longer come together comfortably. A visible space between the upper and lower rows when the mouth is closed is worth checking too.
Wear can offer another clue. One or two teeth may become flatter or shorter because they take more pressure than the others. Some people also catch the same area of their cheek whenever they chew.
For a child, the point at which baby teeth give way to permanent ones is useful to observe. The doctor can see how much room is available and whether the jaws are growing in balance. That does not always mean treatment starts immediately; a later review may be all that is needed.
Adult orthodontics
Plenty of adults start orthodontic treatment. Some have wanted straighter teeth for years. Others need space created before a crown, implant or another dental restoration.
Before fitting anything, the dental team makes sure the mouth is ready. The gums should be stable, and active decay or inflammation needs attention first.
The number of birthdays a patient has had does not decide everything. Bone support, existing dental work and the distance each tooth needs to travel have a greater influence on the plan.
What happens at the consultation
The first question is usually simple: what would you like to change? Perhaps one tooth stands out in photographs, the bite feels awkward or teeth have shifted since earlier treatment. Jaw noises and tiredness while chewing are also worth mentioning.
The clinical examination shows how the teeth meet. To study the bite in more detail, the doctor may need photographs, X-rays and a model of the teeth.
At Tooth Fairy Clinic, that model can be made with a 3D scanner. The scanner passes over the teeth and produces a digital copy on screen. Measurements can be taken directly from it, and there is no need for a conventional impression tray.
Once the records have been reviewed, the orthodontist explains the findings. You will hear which changes are realistic, what appliance may be suitable and what the first stage would involve. Where two routes are possible, both can be discussed before you choose.
Braces, aligners and other appliances
Orthodontics uses more than one type of appliance. Depending on the bite and the patient’s age, treatment may involve braces, Invisalign or other clear aligners, removable plates, expansion appliances or retainers.
Children and adults do not usually receive the same plan. A growing jaw offers possibilities that are no longer available later, while an adult case may need to take crowns, missing teeth or earlier dental work into account.
The separate service pages explain each appliance in greater detail. The system itself should be chosen after bite diagnosis, not from photographs or advertising.
While the teeth are moving
Treatment includes return appointments. At each one, the orthodontist looks at the actual position of the teeth, makes any required adjustment and compares progress with the original plan.
What happens between visits matters just as much. Food and plaque collect around brackets, so cleaning has to reach the small spaces beside them. Aligners must spend the prescribed number of hours in the mouth, while a removable plate cannot work from inside its storage box.
After active treatment, retainers hold the result. Teeth do not instantly become fixed in their new position once braces come off. A retainer gives the surrounding tissues time to settle, and the orthodontist will show you when and how to wear it.

FAQ
When should a child’s bite be checked?
The period when baby teeth are falling out is a sensible time to take a closer look. At the visit, the doctor checks whether the incoming teeth have enough room and how the upper and lower jaws relate to each other. The answer may simply be “let’s keep watching” rather than “let’s start treatment”.
Is orthodontic care available for adults?
Yes. Teeth retain the ability to move well beyond the teenage years. Before recommending treatment, the orthodontist assesses the gums, bone support and any crowns, implants or missing teeth.
Braces or Invisalign — how is the choice made?
It begins with the bite rather than personal preference alone. Certain movements may suit either system; others are more predictable with one of them. The patient’s willingness to wear removable aligners for the required hours also matters.
How soon will my teeth be straight?
A minor alignment and a complex bite correction take very different amounts of time. Tooth movement also varies between patients. The first estimate appears after the photographs, scans and X-rays have been reviewed. It may be adjusted later according to how the teeth respond.
How much is the first orthodontic appointment?
The consultation costs UAH 850. A complete treatment estimate is prepared after diagnosis and selection of the appliance.
