Dental Consultation

People often book because of pain. Others come after noticing blood on the toothbrush, a chipped filling or a tooth that suddenly feels different. And some simply want a check-up. At Tooth Fairy Clinic in Bila Tserkva, the first visit is about understanding the situation before deciding what happens next.

“My tooth feels strange, but I’m not sure which one.” Dentists hear this often. The source is not always where you feel it. Cold water may set something off for a second; perhaps a certain tooth catches when you chew, or there is an odd taste beside an old crown. Small clues, yes — but useful ones.

The initial dental consultation is a chance to describe what you have noticed and have the entire mouth checked. Treatment may be needed, or the dentist may simply advise keeping an eye on one area.

Before the dentist takes a closer look

First, the dentist will ask what has changed. Was the pain sudden? Does it wake you at night? Does it stop as soon as the cold drink is gone? The answers can point in quite different directions.

A few questions will be about health rather than teeth. Let the dentist know about allergies, ongoing health issues and anything you take regularly — even an over-the-counter remedy. It is also useful to recall how you felt after previous dental anaesthesia. The answer may affect the anaesthetic or the way the visit is arranged.

Fear is worth mentioning too. There is nothing unusual about it. If you prefer to hear what the dentist is doing before each step, say so. If detailed explanations make you more anxious, that can also be taken into account.

More than a look at one tooth

The dentist looks around the entire mouth: not only at the teeth, but also at old dental work, the gums and the lining inside the cheeks. Your bite is checked too. Where you feel the pain is not always where it starts. A neighbouring tooth may be responsible; sometimes the cause is excess biting pressure elsewhere.

Then comes a plain-language explanation. The dentist will point out what looks healthy, what should be watched and what would be better treated. An old filling, for example, may show wear but still have some service left in it.

X-rays and digital records

An X-ray is not automatically included in every visit. It is requested when the clinical examination leaves a question that cannot be answered by sight alone.

What can it show? The condition of a root, bone changes around it, decay beneath a filling or a problem inside a previously treated tooth. Other records are sometimes useful as well. In orthodontic or prosthetic planning, a small scanner can copy the shape of the teeth and turn it into a three-dimensional model — no trays of impression material required.

Which record is needed, if any, becomes clear after the examination.

Deciding what comes first

A dental treatment plan is simply an order of work. Active pain, infection and inflammation sit at the top. A small cavity, worn restoration or planned replacement of a missing tooth may come later.

For one patient, the entire plan is a filling and a hygiene visit. For another, several dentists may be involved over a longer period. The appointments do not have to be crowded together: work that can wait is scheduled at a pace that is practical for the patient.

There can also be more than one suitable solution. The dentist will explain what changes between them — the procedure itself, timing and likely outcome. You can then choose without being rushed into treatment on the spot.

Small dental problems are often quiet. Early decay may not hurt. Neither does every loose filling edge or mild area of gum inflammation. A routine visit may reveal them while the solution is still relatively simple.

FAQ

What actually happens during the first visit?

First, tell the dentist what brought you in. Then comes a look at the whole mouth — teeth, gums, older fillings and crowns. The dentist will show you anything noteworthy and explain which areas can wait and which are better handled sooner.

Will the dentist need an X-ray?

Perhaps, but not as a matter of routine. It becomes useful when the dentist needs to look beneath a filling, inside a tooth or around its root. If the examination already gives a clear answer, an image may add nothing.

Should I bring anything with me?

Bring recent dental images or paperwork if you have them. A note or phone photo showing the names of your regular medicines is helpful too.

What are the current consultation fees?

A visit with an adult dentist is UAH 750–1,200. The paediatric dentist charges UAH 750, while the orthodontist’s fee is UAH 850. When you book, the clinic administrator can confirm the price for the doctor you need.

Is same-day treatment possible?

Sometimes. A simple procedure may fit into the appointment, while another problem may need imaging or a longer visit. If you arrive in acute pain, the immediate aim is to make the situation manageable; the remaining work can be scheduled afterwards.
