Why the Family Sought Treatment

The parents were concerned about damage and discolouration affecting their child’s front teeth. The upper incisors had uneven edges, while the lateral incisors were severely shortened by the loss of crown structure.

The main goal was to preserve the baby teeth and restore their shape.

Assessment and Treatment Plan

The paediatric dentist assessed the depth of the decay and the amount of remaining tooth structure. An examination and dental X-rays helped determine whether each incisor could be restored.

Considering the amount of treatment required and the child’s ability to cooperate during the procedure, general anaesthesia was selected. The anaesthetist assessed the child beforehand and gave the parents preparation instructions.

Treatment Stages

1. Professional cleaning.
Soft plaque was removed from the tooth surfaces, including around the gumline and between the teeth.

2. Removing decay.
Decayed tissue was removed from the four upper incisors. Weakened edges were trimmed, and the teeth were prepared for restoration.

3. Rebuilding the teeth.
The missing parts of the central and lateral incisors were restored, recreating their height and biting edges. A light shade suitable for baby teeth was selected.

4. Finishing and polishing.
The restorations were smoothed and polished, and the contacts between teeth and the bite were checked. An anaesthetist monitored the child throughout the procedure, with continued supervision during recovery.

Treatment Result

Four front baby teeth were restored, including the severely shortened lateral incisors. The after-treatment photograph shows the rebuilt contours and biting edges. Following cleaning and restoration, the teeth appear lighter and more even.

The parents received guidance on brushing, diet, and preventive dental visits to help avoid further decay.
